Transporting lock gates for refurbishment or demolition is just one element of Mersey Mammoth's valuable role in port maintenance.
The largest sea-going self propelled crane on the UK West Coast, Mersey Mammoth has worked on the Continent, in Scandinavia, across the Irish Sea in Dublin and Belfast, among the Scottish Isles and around the UK coast from the North East port of Sunderland to the South West port of Falmouth.
Demonstrating her flexibility to undertake port work, offshore operations and civil engineering water-related contracts, the Dutch built vessel has assisted with the construction of bridges; has put in place ferry port linkspan structures; has raised sunken vessels and used her 500 sq metre cargo deck for the shipment of large cargoes such as prefabricated submarine sections, quayside cranes and bulk liquid shore installations.
Mersey Mammoth which is owned by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company, part of the Peel Ports Group is powered by two British built Ruston diesel electric engines driving two Voith Schneider propulsion units for maximum manoeuvrability and service speed of 7 knots giving rapid and effective response in both open and sheltered waters.
